Mayor Howard Opening the new Eco Classroom at
The Oaktree School, St.John's

Ken talks to the children, parents, teachers and governors with the Eco Classroom in the background. He congratulates everyone for their efforts creating a fantastic and special classroom that benefits the school and enhances the children's education about renewable and recyclable resources. He helps the children cut a branch instead of a ribbon.

Ken's Eco work at the St. John's School is often overshadowed by his councillor role and commitments.

He has worked for twelve years to promote his own bold vision about using
eco friendly technology within the learning environment.

"By creating actual working systems that save the school money on
their energy bills, we also are able to show and teach the young children how
to make electricity from the sun, flush the toilets using captured rain water,
keep the classrooms cool or warm by using trapped moisture under the field
and with a wind turbine children can be shown how to charge batteries on a windy day,

Lilly The Learning Bus Wins 1st Prize
in the Community
Matters Awards 2009

This multi award winning outside classroom is the first of its kind for a primary school in England.

Totally recycled from waste, costing the school no money to create, powered by the wind and having zero rated carbon output when in use.

This type of project can make an enormous enhancement to a child's learning experience.

On behalf of the Oaktree School Ken collects the 1st place award with Glen Alder the Head Teacher and Mike Woods the Chair of Governors.
